Boranup Gallery was built in 1989 by James & Anne Howieson to showcase James’ stunning collection of solid fine timber furniture, along with artworks from some of Australia’s leading designers, artists and craftspeople. The union brings together, a stunningly diverse and intriguing range of artworks in one incredible location.
On entering Boranup Gallery, your senses will be over-whelmed by the assortment of Australian made furniture and artworks within. There is sure to be a piece that tantalises your senses and captivates the imagination.
Today…Boranup Furniture is still handcrafted on site, where James along with his furniture production manager, Colin Smith, have trained over twelve apprentices. Boranup Galleries workshop, specialises in creating one off pieces for discerning clients all around the world…using locally grown hardwood timbers, such as Jarrah, Jarrah Burl, Marri and Blackbutt.
James’ driving philosophy is to handcraft products with superior design and finish and to blend timber species of the South-West, with the best hardware sourced worldwide.
“Whilst incredibly time-consuming to produce, the results are regarded as amongst the finest furniture coming out of Western Australia today,” he claims with pride.
To compliment the furniture…Souvenirs, Art and Sculpture of a similar high standard, have been carefully selected over the decades, adding to the presentation and success of Boranup Gallery, which now represents over 100 artists from all over Australia, thanks to the dedicated work by Curator, Gi’Nelle Stammers, who has been with the gallery since 1998.. It’s the union of the artworks – both traditional and contemporary, subdued and visually vibrant, coupled with the impressively crafted, solid timber furniture, which gives Boranup its unique, beautifully presented blend of acquisitions.
Those who appreciate timber and quality artworks, will be enthralled by the artworks they find within the inviting rammed earth walls of Boranup Gallery. Gi’Nelle, along with Jeanette and Suzie, who preside over the gallery, aim to make each and every visit, a memorable one.
Café Boranup is adjacent to the gallery and serves hearty breakfasts from 8am, along with gourmet lunches and healthy scrumptious snacks until 4pm.
